چکیده
As part of a continuing study of the quantitative distribution of biochemically significant substances and activities in the separate zones of the adrenal gland in various functional states, the present report deals with pyridine nucleotidrs. In addition to other coenzyme functions, the pyridine nucleotides are involved in the hydroxylation of steroids in the adrenal (1, 2). Total osidized and total reduced pyridine nucleotides were determined fluorometrically in microtomc sections of rat adrenal, and data wrre related to protein-nitrogen content. The values from different adrenal zones were subjcctcd to a four-way analysis of variance. Effects of subcutaneous injection of ACTI3 hours before sacrifice were also observed. Incidental to this work, the adaptor of Lowry et al. (3) for USC of small volutnr sample tubes with the Farrand fluorometcr (model A) was modified in some details for greater convenience, and the fluorometer was modified to eliminate use of batteries. The analytical procedure of Lowry et al. (4) for PN and PSHl was applied with changes necessitated by the problem at hand.

Histochemical study of estradiol valerate-induced polycystic ovary syndrome in the rat
For the present study, and follow-up of histochemical changes in estradiol valerate-induced polycysticovary syndrome (PCOS), 48 virgin 90-day-old female rats were used. The rats were divided into thetreatment and control groups. For each rat of the treatment group, 4 mg estradiol valerate was injectedthrough intramuscular route for the induction of PCOS. The control group was taken the same amo...
متن کاملNeuroprotective effect of caffeine in an early model of Parkinson's disease in rat: behavioral and histochemical evidence
Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder affecting 1 to 3% of individuals over the age of 65 years. Both retrospective and prospective epidemiological studies have consistently demonstrated an inverse association between coffee consumption and PD. This study was designed to investigate the beneficial effect of caffeine in an early model of PD. For this purpo...

متن کاملProtective Effect of Vitamin E against Diabetes-Induced Oxidized LDL and Aorta Cell Wall Proliferation in Rat
Background: Hyperlipidemia and oxidized-low-density lipoproteins (Ox-LDL) are important independent cardiovascular risk factors that have been shown to stimulate vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) proliferation. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of vitamin E on Ox-LDL, lipid profile, C-reactive protein (CRP), and VSMC proliferation of rat aorta. Methods: Male Wistar...
متن کاملEffects of buprenorphine in the adrenal, thyroid, and cytokine intra-operative responses in a rat model (Rattus norvegicus): a preliminary study
Objective(s): Buprenorphine is a common analgesic in experimental research, due to effectiveness and having few side-effects, including a limited influence in the immune and endocrine systems. However, how buprenorphine affects cytokine levels and the adrenal and thyroid response during general anesthesia and surgery is incompletely understood. This study aimed to assess whether buprenorphine m...
